Elbert Duncan Thomas was born 17 June 1883. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1906 and then the University of California at Berkeley in 1924. He served in the Utah National Guard, was a professor of political science at the University of Utah from 1924 to 1933, and was elected to the United States Senate in 1932.
